A large contemporary open plan room was added, extending the full width of the existing country styled house built in the 1980s and encompassed older small rooms into one cohesive space. A complimentary and sustainable palette of materials Brick, Zinc and natural slate have been used with full height glazing which, combined with a loggia inspired canopy providing shelter and shade has resulted in a seamless transition from old to new engaging people fully with the garden and parterre planting in all the changing seasons. At one end a heavy brick and masonry bookend conceals cleverly a tool shed and plant room while also framing a streamlined kitchen like a well crafted built-in piece of furniture. At the other end a full height sliding screen is open to the south and west light accessing the terrace.
